In this week’s episode I interview a woman that I really admire, she’s so authentic, such a powerhouse, super confident, all the things you see in someone and go “ooofff I want to be like that”. This amazing person I’m talking about is Shevonne Joyce who is Legalite’s Head of People & Culture. Her role is to lead and uplevel Legalite’s people-strategies, propel them forward as an employer of choice and help to drive growth and industry disruption.
Shevonne has 18 years’ experience in consulting, leadership development and executive management and is a qualified organisational coach and mentor. She’s also a published author with her book The Unlikeables, which delves into the neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy of leader likeability.
Shevonne hasn’t always been as confident in herself, her purpose, or her career as she is today. Through harnessing her experience and immersing herself in a journey of self-discovery, she now applies all that she uniquely has to offer in helping to develop lawyers at Legalite to embrace their individuality and grow into the changemakers and industry disruptors they were destined to be. Shevonne is also proudly Autistic (with ADHD) and is living with a neurological disorder that was triggered by COVID, which she talks about in this episode.
In this Episode, Shevonne walks us through her journey of how she’s been met with judgement and backlash for being a driven, outspoken strong woman and what these moments have taught her about herself.
We also talk about how there's this pressure on women to be the “perfect” mother and also have a successful career and also be bold but also nurturing and how we can never really meet these expectations because we’re not perfect. Shevonne provides us with some tips so that you can embrace your full selves, passion, desire and drive and not to worry about having to choose one or the other, to just be yourself.
