Ep.45/ Listen To Your Intuition & Build Your Own Career Path
LISTEN NOW
In this episode I take on the role of interviewee rather than interviewer. My friend Danielle interviewed me on her podcast, Be The Embodiment Podcast and our conversation was too good not to share with you.
Exploring Career Paths
The interview kicks off with Danielle acknowledging my unconventional career trajectory. I share about my non-linear career journey, recognizing that many listeners may relate to feeling lost or stuck in their own careers. Imperfections and detours are natural and part of the career journey. I talk about my transition from private practice to in-house counsel, my exploration of entrepreneurship and blogging, and my decision to become a career coach.
Tapping into Creativity and Embracing New Opportunities
I open up about experiencing burnout and a loss of creativity during the first few years of my legal career. Seeking an outlet, I began blogging and connected with like-minded individuals who expanded my vision and opportunities beyond the law. Through my blog I discovered my passion for helping people and found my way to the field of life coaching which then lead to career coaching.
Overcoming Challenges and Following Intuition
Despite facing challenges and societal expectations, I made bold decisions to pursue my true calling. I share about my experience of quitting my first law job without a backup plan and taking a four-month break to rediscover myself. Ultimately, I enrolled in a life coaching course, aligning my passion for helping others with my creative instincts.
asking for what you want
I share with Danielle my transition back to the legal industry on my own terms. Recognizing the need for flexibility and balance, I approached potential employers with my desire to work four days a week. By confidently expressing my intentions and priorities, I found an employer who embraced this request, which showed me the power of advocating for myself.
The Importance of Taking Risks and Asking
Both Danielle and I emphasize the value of asking for what you want and need. Without taking initiative, opportunities may remain hidden, and self-imposed limitations can limit personal growth. My pursuit of my desires allowed me to carve out a unique path and cultivate a career that aligns with my values and interests.
Wrap Up
My career journey serves as an example of embracing the messy and nonlinear aspects of professional life. Through my interview on the "Be the Embodiment" podcast, I share my experiences, challenges, and pivotal moments that led me to become a career coach and lawyer in a way that’s aligned with me and my desires. My hope is that my story encourages you to trust your intuition, take risks, and build careers that reflect your authentic selves.
